Cybersecurity: Frontiers of Strategy and Policy

On December 5-7 2018, Oxford University's Centre for Technology and Global Affairs – together with Oxford Analytica – hosted the first Executive Education Programme on "Cybersecurity: Frontiers of Strategy and Policy".

The event convened senior executives and decision makers to learn about cyber threats and how the related technologies affect the affairs of states, businesses, and institutions. Participants benefited from the combined knowledge of the Centre and Oxford Analytica, equipping them with conceptual frameworks and practical insights to understand and address cybersecurity challenges.

Lucas Kello, Centre Director and Senior Lecturer in International Relations, opened the three-day event with a talk on the technological revolution from a historical perspective. Further sessions addressed national security strategies and the concept of cyber defence; security challenges surrounding the Internet of Things; Russia’s security strategy and information warfare; and political disruption in the social media era. On the final day participants engaged in a practical simulation exercise, applying their skills to a cyber crisis event in a coordinated response across private and public sector sectors.
