Nikita Chiu Interview: It’s Time to Take the Trash out of Space

Centre Research Fellow Dr Nikita Chiu has been interviewed for Hive Life, discussing why cleaning up space should be the next global priority. Space debris is made up of hundreds of thousands of pieces of defunct satellites and fragmented artificial objects orbiting our planet and others. These objects could collide at any moment, possibly wiping out many space-based capabilities such as GPS positioning and, in the worst case scenario, create a chain reaction leading to a colossal collision detrimental to major orbits.
