First "Robotic Skies" Workshop: The Role of Private Industry and Public Policy in Shaping the Drones Industry

On June 21 and 22, 2018, Oxford University’s Centre for Technology and Global Affairs hosted the First “Robotic Skies” Workshop: The Role of the Private Sector and Public Policy in Shaping the Drones Industry in Rhodes House, Oxford. 

This workshop, organized in partnership with Measure and other drone companies and organizations, brought together practitioners, policymakers, and experts from industry, government, and academia to explore the future governance  landscape of civil airspace and the global industry for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and Autonomous Aerial Vehicles (AAVs).

Dynamic presentations and discussions at the workshop resulted in the identification of several major challenges faced by the drone industry and by governments that need to monitor and regulate this sector. Based on the workshop’s proceedings, this report proposes the following concrete measures to tackle each of the key factors that directly affect the use of the technologies and the growth of the industry.
