Robert Gorwa

Robert Gorwa is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Politics and International Relations. A graduate of the Oxford Internet Institute (MSc, 2017), and a researcher affiliated with both the Centre for Technology and Global Affairs and the Project on Democracy and the Internet at Stanford University, Gorwa’s dissertation project examines the political role of large technology “platforms,” with a focus on platform governance and evolving notions of corporate power in democratic societies. His work, which has been recognized by the International Communication Association and the Association of Internet Researchers, has been published or is forthcoming in Information, Communication & Society, Policy & Internet, and Internet Policy Review. He contributes to the Los Angeles Review of Books and has written for Wired UK, the Washington PostForeign Affairs, and other popular outlets.
